Blake Richardson of New Hope Club opens for The Vamps at Alcatraz on May 22, 2018 in Milan, Italy.for a resurfaced tweet from 2015, in which the singer used a homophobic slur.a now-deleted February 2015 tweet made by Richardson, in which he wrote"Will see this f-g tomorrow," tagging the account @horehayyy, listed as George Smith on its page. Fans immediately criticized Richardson for using the slur, calling on him to respond and apologize.
In his note on Twitter, Richardson started off by apologizing not just for the tweet, but for his use of the word in general."I would like to apologise from the bottom of my heart for the tweet ever existing," he wrote."I promise you that this is in no way a reflection of my morals or beliefs." The New Hope Club star went on to say that he"didn't know the meaning" of the word when he used it back in 2015, and that he has since educated himself."Though it's no excuse, I was young and it was a thoughtless moment that I regret," he said."As I've gotten older, I've learned the weight of words and it breaks my heart and completely devastates me that an uneducated old tweet could be taken as a reflection of my character.
Closing out his statement, Richardson apologized a second time and made a promise to his fans."I deeply apologise for causing offence and hurtful feelings," he wrote."Please know I will continue to use my platform to encourage positivity and acceptance."
