Peter H. Hunt followed his success of '1776' with a long film and TV career, plus a decade as artistic director of the Williamstown Theatre Festival.

Hunt died Sunday at his home in Los Angeles from complications of Parkinson’s disease, said his wife, Barbette Hunt.

A revival of “1776,” which chronicles the events leading up to the signing of the Declaration of Independence with a focus on John Adams,“He loved theatricality, he loved big theatrical gestures,” said friend and colleague David Rambo, a television writer and producer who collaborated with Hunt on staging a classic theater to benefit the Actors Fund. “Peter personified classic Broadway to me.”
