. B.C.’s Mission Institution has been hardest hit, with 65 cases. There has been one death. Only 743 inmates – around five per cent – have been tested.
The ombudsman noted prisons had locked down inmates, shut gyms, libraries and other communal spaces, and suspended programs and communal meals. Even more restrictive measures were in place in those facilities with outbreaks, he said. Zinger did report an “overall spike” in incidents at several facilities involving non-compliant inmate behaviour, protests, threats against staff, assaults on inmates and other disturbances.
Correctional Service Canada confirmed the two incidents on Friday. It said one inmate was injured at Collins Bay on April 15 when staff used “distraction devices” to get inmates back into their cells. The service also confirmed an inmate needed outside treatment after the Donnacona unrest.“CSC reviews the circumstances of any incident in which force is used and takes the appropriate measures in order to prevent or improve our use of force practices,” a spokeswoman said.
Canada's prison ombudsman needs his head examined
Safest place for them to be..is in isolation. JUST LIKE OUR SENIORS. LOCK EM UP for their own Safety..
Being the victim of a crime is “extremely concerning”.
Show them the example of humanity that you want them to live by; and they will do it. cdnpoli

The only way I would be onboard with this, is if you also allow concealed carry for Canadian citizens with PALs and RPALs exclusively.
The word on the wire is....inmates are “spitting” on each other to get sick so as they can leave prison. This action sounds predictable given their situation and Mind set.
Well if they were useful members of society I’d care but they get what they deserve!
I believe during this crisis we need to have an adoption program, all those in favor of dealing with incarcerated inmates can take one home during this crisis and nurture , feed, shelter , clean up after them, provide needle exchanges, cook for them to join in at family dinners.
And their crimes are 'extremely concerning' to the Canadian public.
Maybe they shouldn’t have broken the law. The way our system handles cases, I’m surprised the prisons are even busy.
The prisoners crimes were 'extremely concerning' for victims, their families & general public. Explain to me the age of the Isolated prisoners. Death is highest 85% from 70 years or older. Doubt very many in that category. Stop whining, real concern is for Front Line staff
Fuck every inmate and their concerns. Do the crime, do the time
It’s extremely worrisome for long term care patients - who aren’t convicted felons.
