Video posted on social media shows the crew watching a makeshift DJ set, playing dance music at a naval base in Plymouth.

The Royal Navy has launched an investigation after the captain of a submarine allegedly held a barbeque with dance music for his submariners during the coronavirus lockdown.

A defence source said the barbeque alone - for a crew that was on a brief break after weeks at sea - would not have triggered such action but the commanding officer of HMS Trenchant, a nuclear-powered submarine, was also being investigated over a number of other alleged"errors of judgement". Video posted on social media apparently shows the crew watching what looks to be a makeshift DJ set at a naval base in Devonport, Plymouth. The exact date is not clear but the defence source said it allegedly happened early on in thelockdown when the significant effort by the government to tell people to stay at home and not to socialise was just beginning.

The sight of a few dozen submariners - even though none of them could have COVID-19 because they had been together at sea in their submarine when theThe commanding officer was allegedly asked by phone to stop the barbeque, but he allegedly allowed it to continue.

Not surprised . They do have mentally demanding job but all the coverups that Royal Navy done regarding submariners integrity and morale just speak for themselves

Really? These servicemen/servicewomen are separated from their families and isolating in a steel tube; leave them be I say.

God forbid any boss should seek to raise morale amongst his team!!! If this is all they have to complain about they should think themselves very lucky!! Well done that Boss!! Honestly Royal Navy... Get a fu**ing life.

I think they deserved it after being couped up in a submarine for weeks.

Mist of been smokey as hell inside that thing

adamgatto

Weeks away. Time alongside limited as you're off again, looks like they were locked into a compound so only get to look at home, getting wasted on water and hot dogs .......the shame of it.

The offended brigade are out in force

Would have been ok on Westminster bridge

How the fuck did they light it ?

What a crap clickbait story by haynesdeborah They’re submerged for months living on a semi floating nuclear reactor and some hefty 1,000 mile range cruise missiles. I think they’re capable of cooking a few sausages.

Leave our submariners alone!!!

A submarine is essentially a household.

Who asked him? Some silly police officer. Give the Captain the Victoria Cross FGS. We need more of this leadership, not Police 'service' idiocy or Tory imbecile stupidity.

Oh no! If they investigate a submarine commander then we must cancel having the neighbours pop in to the back of the garden on Sunday! What a load of bollocks! Who makes this sit up?

It’s probably worth you to focus more on what’s happening on land rather than in water ! Nob jockeys

Give me a break.

They’ve been living and quarantining with eachother for the last period of time. This is no different to a family having a BBQ in their back garden.

Should have held it on Westminster Bridge. The police don't give a shit about noncompliance there.

How dare he improve morale! Short of real news?

Yeah, always make the crew hold it during lockdown.
