An announcement is anticipated in the coming days following Tuesday night's meeting of the Stampede Board of Directors. If this year's Stampede is cancelled it will be the first cancellation since it became an annual event in 1923.
The rodeo, midway, Rangeland Derby, vendors and parties draw in more than a million people over the 10-day event but large crowds conflict with current social distancing measures put in place to slow the spread of the virus. While Stampede supporters would be left disappointed by the decision, a cancellation would come as little surprise given the novel coronavirus pandemic.
I thought they were entertaining the idea of moving it to late August. ? Maybe they concluded that wouldn't be feasible.
Ummm it’s a no brainer it’s cancelled for 2020 everything is! As it should be
Should be cancel, going ahead is technically opening the door for disasters covid 19 spread! Calgary is already a hot zone so no need for more headache.
With Calgary suffering with the most cases of Covid 19 deaths in the province, cancelling makes sense for all.
Until there’s a vaccine, I say hold back for now unless your prepared for a second wave. Sure we have rights and all but folks this isn’t resolved yet nor has it even started to subside
It should be postponed at the very least unless they want a break out of mass proportions in the city and with anyone else that packs in there. Anybody who has ever been knows it is impossible to keep distance and limit interactions with that event. It and the city are crazy.
You would think the fact an announcement is coming pretty much means it’s cancelled.
I am hoping it goes ahead, wb a great morality boost for people in our province.
I would think doomed
Hmm🤔 think we know the answer to this one
I'm pretty sure there's more than a few chuck wagon ponies crossing their hooves that it's cancelled so they can live another year.
