The first episode of what many believe was the best Irish comedy series was broadcast 25 years ago tonight, as Father Ted was unleashed on the world.
Ardal O’Hanlon, who played hapless Fr Dougal McGuire, yesterday revealed it is “hugely gratifying” when the show is name-checked in the Dail. Actor O’Hanlon revealed his own favourite episode is Speed 3 - which features randy milkman Pat Mustard. O’Hanlon told Newstalk he got the career-changing part by chance after he received a call from Arthur asking him to audition.
A decent first season after that it was rubbish.
