An American man has become the first international fatality linked to the Ruby Princess cruise ship. 9News

The 76-year-old man from California had been on a ventilator for two weeks before he died on April 9 after developing COVID-19 symptoms on his return to the US. His wife also has the virusNSW Health says it is increasing the number of tests of crew "in order to gain a better understanding of whether crew were developing immunity".

New South Wales Police investigators in protective gear prepare to board the Ruby Princess at Wollongong, Australia. Police boarded the cruise ship to seize evidence and question crew members after the vessel was linked to hundreds of COVID-19 cases and more than a dozen deaths across Australia. "Over the next 48 hours we expect all crew who have yet to be tested - as they are currently asymptomatic - to have been tested for COVID-19," NSW Health said in a statement yesterday.

As of yesterday, 149 crew on board the Ruby Princess - docked at Port Kembla - had tested positive for COVID-19 from around 300 tests, and 13 people have been taken off the ship for treatment in Sydney hospitals.Related Articles
