The veteran entertainment reporter met with Hollywood star Rita Wilson after her Sydney Opera House performance last week and has since returned a positive result for coronavirus.Wilson performed a concert of songs from her recently released fourth album,to an audience of about 200 people in the intimate Utzon Room at the Sydney Opera House on Saturday night with her husband Tom Hanks in the audience. Wilkins was escorted backstage to meet the couple after the show.
"Richard Wilkins has tested positive to COVID-19. Richard is not showing any symptoms of the virus and has been self-isolating, on his own at home, since Thursday last week," a Nine spokeswoman said."Since he is still without symptoms the authorities advise that he has not knowingly put others at risk, although anyone he has been in contact with prior to Thursday afternoon has been notified and will be tested if they show any symptoms of the virus.
Their diagnosis resulted in the production of Baz Luhrmann's upcoming Elvis Presley biopic shuttering production, and the cast and crew being sent into isolation. So far no one from that production has been diagnosed with coronavirus. However Wilkins is at least the third person who met with Wilson and Hanks after the concert on Saturday night who has since been diagnosed with the virus.the following day, interviewed by David Campbell and Belinda Russell, and used one of the dressing rooms at Nine's Willoughby studios resulting in both Campbell and Russell being put into isolation.
