The Victorian doctor who tested positive for the coronavirus has been named as Australian singer-songwriter Missy Higgins' dad.
Dr Higgins, who works at the clinic, is in isolation after reportedly contracting COVID-19 on a recent trip to the US.The doctor's patients, along with staff, have also been asked to self-isolate, while two patients he visited in Malvern's Mecwacare nursing home are also in isolation. Victoria Health Minister Jenny Mikakos said on Saturday:"I'm absolutely flabbergasted that a doctor who has experienced flu-like symptoms has presented to work.
"I believe you have taken a cheap opportunity for political grandstanding and would appreciate an apology.
He should apologise to the patients and people he came in contact with. Fancy shafting the blame to guidelines, a Dr. for so many yrs didn't teach him to take things in context with the current COVID-19 situation. Can one imagine how much stress those people are having right now?
I just tried to get checked in Japan after having a cough and other symptoms for a week. The Japanese hospital said, if you don't have a fever, then you can't get checked. I know that's Japan but there's a lot of conflicting information out there...
I just heard full interview with Brendan Murphy Cth CMO. He said the following: '1. Anyone who is a 'returned traveler' and has symptoms should be tested. 2. We have always said all health workers with flu-like symptoms should be tested immediately.' So there you have it.

Basic OH &S every industry has it. You come back on a plane from a country with covid-19 and have a cold. Don't have to be a rocket scientist to know you're putting people in danger. It's common sense not guidelines The doctors break these OH&S rules consistently in nursing homes

If he was an Asian Doctor, could you imagine the amount of vitriol and condemnation that would have come down on him. No health professional deserves that but at least apologize for your mistakes first then put forward your points about getting support from the government.
I was totally unimpressed with Dr Chris Higgins response. Only a white privileged male would have the gall to demand an apology and not even have the decency to extend an apology to the patients and families he has put at risk.

Except it wasn't inaccurate or unfair. He did not have a slight cold. He had a typical case of COVID-19, which he then spread far and wide.

This is fair play. If a patient showed up at The Alfred from the USA with a runny nose, according to our current protocols they would not have been swabbed or even have met current screening protocols.
Government should be flabbergasted at almost no response for protection of airline and airport workers being the gateway for the virus. In fact worker concerns have been laughed at by their employers.
