The rapid spread of the coronavirus, now affecting more than 80 nations, has plunged the travel and tourism industry into chaos.

The world premiere of the film had been scheduled for London's Royal Albert Hall on March 31.

"With the coronavirus reaching pandemic status, it is time to put public health above marketing release schedules and the cost of cancelling publicity events," the letter read. A government source said schools and universities will be closed nationwide from Thursday, though the education minister said the decision had not yet been finalised.

The Saudi move expands a ban last week on foreigners visiting Mecca and Medina, home to the holiest sites in Islam.
