An Iranian rocket failed to put a satellite into orbit, state television reported. It's the latest setback for a program the U.S. claims helps Tehran advance its ballistic missile program.

This Feb. 4, 2020 satellite image from Maxar Technologies, shows preparations at a rocket launch pad at the Imam Khomeini Space Center in Iran's Semnan province. An Iranian rocket failed to put a satellite into orbit on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2020, state television reported, the latest setback for a program the U.S. claims helps Tehran advance its ballistic missile program.

“Stage-1 and stage-2 motors of the carrier functioned properly and the satellite was successfully detached from its carrier, but at the end of its path it did not reach the required speed for being put in the orbit,” Defense Ministry space program spokesman Ahmad Hosseini told state TV. Jahromi acknowledged the unsuccessful launch in a tweet shortly after the news broke on state TV, comparing it to a “few samples of US launch failures.”

Sunday’s failure came after two failed launches of the Payam and Doosti satellites last year, as well as Iran, which long has said it does not seek nuclear weapons, maintains its satellite launches and rocket tests do not have a military component. Tehran also says it hasn’t violated the U.N. resolution as it only “called upon” Tehran not to conduct such tests. Western missile experts have also questioned the U.S. contention that Iran’s program could have a dual use for nuclear weapons.

Space flight is a tough business. In the 52 years since the beginning of American efforts to reach space, more than 160 launches, including that of the Orbiting Carbon Observatory on February 24, have failed. Apollo VI was a hum-dinger; luckily unmanned.

beep beep!

SciGuySpace Bummer for Iran. And, yeah; they’ve restarted their nuclear program due to the U.S.’s unilateral decision to throw the nuclear deal in the garbage—a deal that, by ALL accounts, was being adhered to. Bummer for us. And the rest of the world.

Good news for the rest of us.

A common problem, not enough fuel due to var reasons from valve shutting off to fuel monitoring engineer to orbital calculation. This problem could be resolved in a new orbit with payload download software mod.Using earth gravity to sling shot the speed'up sat back to its orig orb

Sorry this happened to you again

This sounds like a task for.....

Maybe don't create conditions in your country that make all the scientists and technicians want to leave for Europe and the U.S. If Iran was pro-business and not so hostile in global affairs they'd have satellites in orbit.

lol idiots

Message to Iran.

It could have contained an EMP device. We'll never know if/when one Iran gets off the ground does, until it is used. US needs to do a better job of monitoring their rocket launch operations.

North Korean definition of success: “It didn’t explode on the ground, and it went up.” 😆

I think Melania used the same metaphor once. 'You've failed to put your rocket completely into orbit'

SciGuySpace

Attempting to launch rockets into orbit is absolutely related to Iran's ballistic missile capabilities. The first rockets that the U.S. Navy and NASA launched into space were first developed as ballistic missiles.

We weren't so great at it when we first started, either.

Lol

'the U.S. claims' oh yeah, as if we could believe anything coming from the shitshow country. Haha, good one.

Oh sure, totally an accident 🙄

Hopefully they didn’t shoot down another plane in the process

Islamic Republic is a failed regime WeStandWithPahlavi

'The US claims' SMH
