Bringing in real-estate veteran Sandeep Mathrani as CEO is just one step in turning around a cash-guzzling WeWork, writes rob_cyran.

WeWork said on Feb. 1 that Sandeep Mathrani will become chief executive of the shared-office-space firm on Feb. 18. He will also join the company’s board of directors. Mathrani will report to Marcelo Claure, WeWork’s executive chairman.

Current co-CEOs, Artie Minson and Sebastian Gunningham, will remain with the company through a transition period. Mathrani was previously CEO of Brookfield Properties' retail group. Prior to that, he worked as CEO of General Growth Properties, a real-estate investment trust, for eight years, having served as president of retail for Vornado Realty Trust.
