'I hope the song doesn't come true but some of it already has.' paulkelly on his new song that tackles Australia's lack of action on climate change and environmental destruction

Kelly says the song is both "a lament in the form of a lullaby" and "a critique of the widespread attitude among humans that we are the most important life form on the planet".that he believed we have "reached a tipping point where this attitude is doing terrible harm to all life on earth. I hope the song doesn't come true but some of it already has."

The lyrics of the song, published exclusively ahead of its release on Wednesday, talk of a country that is sleeping its way towards massive destruction of the planet and its species: "Our children might know them but their children will not. We won't know 'til it's gone all the glory we've got."It's a call out to all people rather than a politically-slanted statement.

, written with Kev Carmody, a song that became an anthem in the call for broader equality and land rights for Indigenous people. It charted the Gurindji people's Wave Hill Walk-Off in 1966 and Prime Minister Gough Whitlam's subsequent symbolic return of the earth to Gurindji elder Vincent Lingiari in 1975.

paulkelly Obviously has smart managers marketing himself to the consumer the way he does. Others may say he's a sell out. Not me. No, he's just a shrewd businessman. Separate them fools from their money.

paulkelly I always thought the phrase 'heard the train coming, stayed right on the tracks' summed it up pretty well (Dumb Things)

paulkelly Always overrated and now insufferable too.

paulkelly I enjoy fictional songs

paulkelly Utter garbage

paulkelly Australia needs a Poet Laureate of the ilk of Les Murray who can cut through our miasma. Paul Kelly has done it I think

Therese_Rein paulkelly The album will be just like the climate debate. You can hear it, but you really don't want to. So ignore it and get back to me if your life falls apart because you didn't listen to it.

paulkelly Don't get climate change, confused with government incompetence and corporate corruption.....

paulkelly He’s thinking opportunistically like the Thunberg family. Big money to be made from the climate cult.

paulkelly CLIMATE CHANGE IS A CROCK OF U.N environMENTAList CRAP paulkelly time to wtfu to the truth !!!!!!😡 wont be buying your song

paulkelly I think Paul needs to start thinking about Other people that want climate change. Being selfish isn’t a nice policy

paulkelly When your career is spiraling into oblivion simply touch base with the SMH and tell them you'll get on the climate change band wagon for some free publicity.

paulkelly I hope it’s 1000% better than Firewood & Candles and My Man’s Got a Cold. I hope it’s more like Have You Ever Seen Sydney, St Kilda to Kings Cross, Randwick Bells, Dumb Things, Before Too Long...
