But he admitted the fate of the show and a fourth series is down to writers Ruth, 53, and James, 41, saying: "I don't know. I don't write it." The show picked up the Impact award at Tuesday's National Television Awards and Mat said the show's return had been crazy for all involved.
"The whole year has been amazing. The number of people that watched the show – it's been extraordinary."
