The festival which features large containers stacked up on one another, first made its debut in Balik Pulau on Jan 19, showcasing the works of local and international artists.Painted on the other side of the container is ‘Tribute to the late Chuah Thean Teng’ by Penang-based artist Bibichun.
Bibichun’ s creation is a Malay lady dressed in a traditional kebaya top and batik sarong, inking a batik of her self-potrait and watched by a toddler. “The Trishaw Rider mural highlighting the living heritage elements found in George Town heritage site depicts the rider who gives a memorable tour of the heritage sites, ” said Penang tourism, arts and culture committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin when launching the installation at the Prangin Mall site recently.
“Bibichun’s creation is a tribute to the late Chuah Thean Teng, who is the father of batik art, ” he said.Five locations have been chosen for the various displays, namely Balik Pulau, Karpal Singh Drive in Jelutong, Prangin Mall, Batu Kawan and Butterworth on the mainland.
