A painting by LS Lowry that experts had no knowledge of for more than 70 years has sold at auction for £2.65m.
The painting, which depicts workers in the Greater Manchester town enjoying a day off and children playing cricket, had spent most of its life in the US.
Think how much it would have cost if it had been found

A lot of missing art mysteriously turning up all of a sudden, 5 old masterpieces found ( old part of East Germany, Berlin ,including a Van Dyke ), A Klimt turns up, After being mislaid in a warehouse, Now this Lowey.
I used to paint like this in early-years school painting-sessions but the results were always discarded without a thought for their possible future value (sob).
Waste of Money. This typifies the greed that society has today.
BBCRadioLondon god knows why.
Can't believe it wasn't found by Rebecca 'not wrong for long' Bailey who lived there and devoured Salford for her entire life.
How can a crappy painting be worth £2.65m ? This money should go to NHS funding, public services, poverty alleviation, elderly care. What is this racketeering? It must be banned & declared a criminal offence .
You’d think there hadn’t just been a massive inquiry into rape gangs with how fast you lot at the BBC have dropped it. Got to divert the attention of the masses away? Now the public just gets drivel. Enablers.
This doesn't look like a Lowrey. Compared to his other works the figures look too sharp and filled in with colour, whereas his other works show more sketchy figures or is this just modern photography?
Where's Waldo?
Wouldn't have given you 26p for it....
