Russell Crowe Missed the Golden Globes Because of the Australian Bushfires

He won the award for Best Actor in a Limited Series for his role as Roger Ailes in ‘The Loudest Voice.’Russell Crowe was all-but unrecognizable in his role as former Fox CEO Roger Ailes in the Showtime miniseriesfor Best Actor in a Limited Series or Television Film at the Golden Globes Sunday night, but the actor wasn’t at the awards ceremony to pick up his prize in person.

Though bushfires are a regular occurrence in Australia, the fires currently raging are the worst the nation has seen in decades. More than 1,300 homes have been destroyed, 24 people have died, and experts estimate that nearly half a billion animals have been killed. The bushfires have burned more than 12 million acres of land. Each day, more than 3,000 firefighters are dispatched to tackle the blazes.
