Organisers of the Falls Festival near Victoria's Great Ocean Road have cancelled the rest of the music event due to predicted extreme weather conditions.People who bought tickets to the event have been promised full refundsIn a statement announcing the decision, organisers said conditions forecast for tomorrow in the Otways and surrounding region created,"a risk to health and safety due to potential fires, smoke, severe winds and tree hazards".

"We are gutted to make this call but the safety of our patrons, artists and staff is our main priority," Jessica Ducrou, the co-chief executive of festival organisers Secret Sounds said.Organisers asked patrons to pack up their campsites and return to their homes before the gates of the site closed at 9:00am tomorrow."The Great Ocean Road is at capacity, please do not return into Lorne or other coastal townships as they are all subject to the same extreme weather conditions.

"Do not look to camp in the Otways or any forested area, as the fire risk is extreme and there are forecast wind gusts of 90–100kph with possible lightning." All those who bought tickets to the Lorne event would receive a full refund including booking and payment-processing fees.

At least they show some common sense. More than our stupid councils and their fireworks. God help us from these idiots.

So, the costs of climate change keep mounting up. Sort of makes the claim that we can't affort the measures to combat it a bit redundant, hey?

There was no extreme weather, nothing happened, also could have been easily moved to Torquay as in the past, this was based on hysteria

Who is responsible for canceling this event. This is a bloody disgrace.

It was moved to Torquay in '99 but due to rain. Shame they couldn't do the same this time
