Russell Simmons, who faces multiple allegations of sexual misconduct and rape, which he has consistently and vehemently denied, is speaking out against Winfrey's upcoming project

filed a $5 million lawsuit

against Simmons for a rape that allegedly occurred in 2016; Simmons responded with a statement, in which he said, “I look forward to having my day in court, where, unlike the court of public opinion, I will have the ability to make use of fair processes that ensure that justice will be done and that the full truth will be known.” He added that he would “not litigate this matter in the media,” and branded the previous allegations as ranging “from the patently untrue to the frivolous and hurtful.

In his Instagram post Friday, Simmons wrote that he has “refused to get in the mud with any accusers,” but added, “let’s acknowledge what I have shared.” He noted that he has taken multiple polygraph tests, although as thenoted in 2018, lie detector tests are known to be unreliable. Nonetheless, Simmons wrote, “Now that you have reviewed the facts and you SHOULD have learned what I know; that these stories are UNUSABLE and that ‘hurt people hurt people.

“In closing, I am guilty of exploiting, supporting, and making the soundtrack for a grossly unequal society, but I have never been violent or forced myself on anyone,” Simmons wrote. “Still I am here to help support a necessary shift in power and consciousness. Let us get to work on uplifting humanity and put this moment and old narrative behind.”, 50 Cent described an issue of his own with the doc: “I don’t understand why Oprah is going after black men,” he wrote.
